Since 2001 I’ve made Cibachromes in an extra large format that we call Museum Size. Museum Size Cibachromes are available in the following sizes: 8×10″ format as 40×50″; panoramic to 25×64″ and medium format work as 40×40″.
I consider these large Cibachromes the finest examples of my art and craft and represent the ultimate expression of my photographic work. However, they are extremely difficult, time consuming and expensive to produce. Aside from the difficulties in making these Cibas by hand in my darkroom, they come pressure mounted, double matted, crated and shipped by special freight carrier to the customer’s framer.
Due to these factors, I need to limit these Cibas to editions of no more than 15. Since I am working with a limited quantity of irreplaceable Cibachrome, many images will have less than 15, sometimes much less.
In an edition of 15 only 14 are available for sale, since we archive the #1 Cibas. The pricing of Museum Size Cibachromes is based upon the particular price tier of an image. After the first six Cibas are sold (Cibachromes 2 to 7) the price increases. The second six (Cibachromes 8 to 13) are priced one tier higher, Cibachrome 14 is one more tier higher and Cibachrome 15 is more one tier higher. Shorter editions will have proportionally more rapid price increases.
We have about 85 different images already in stock in the Museum Size. Because of the scarcity of my Cibachrome materials, at this time I regrettably can’t print any images which haven’t already been printed, nor add more Cibas to most editions. Once I build up my inventory of 30x40” prints, I hope to be able to make more Museum Size Cibas.
